CK Tan Law Corporation ("we", "the firm") is committed to safeguarding your personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 of Singapore (the "PDPA"). This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

1. The personal data we collect

  • Identity and contact data: your name, NRIC or passport number where required, address, telephone number and email address.
  • Matter data: information you give us about your legal matter, including documents and correspondence.
  • Enquiry data: the information you submit through the enquiry form on this website.
  • Technical data: your IP address, browser type and pages visited, collected through analytics.

2. Why we collect it

  • To respond to your enquiry and to carry out a conflict check.
  • To provide legal services and to act on your instructions.
  • To verify your identity and to meet our obligations under anti-money-laundering and client due diligence rules.
  • To comply with our professional, regulatory and legal obligations.
  • To administer the firm, including billing and record keeping.

3. Consent

We collect, use and disclose your personal data with your consent, or where the PDPA otherwise permits or requires it. By submitting an enquiry, you consent to our using your data to respond to it. You may withdraw consent at any time by writing to us, although doing so may mean we can no longer act for you.

4. Disclosure

We may disclose your personal data to third parties where it is necessary for your matter or where we are required to do so. This may include the courts and tribunals, opposing parties and their solicitors, counsel and experts we instruct on your behalf, government agencies, and our professional advisers and IT service providers. We do not sell personal data.

5. Confidentiality and legal privilege

Information you give us in the course of a matter is also protected by our professional duty of confidentiality and, where applicable, by legal professional privilege. Those duties are separate from, and additional to, our obligations under the PDPA.

6. Protection and retention

We take reasonable security arrangements to protect personal data in our possession against unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure or loss. We retain personal data for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, and thereafter for the period required by our professional and legal obligations, after which it is securely destroyed.

7. Accuracy and access

You may ask us for access to the personal data we hold about you, and for information about how it has been used or disclosed in the past year. You may also ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete. We may charge a reasonable fee for an access request, and we will tell you the fee before we proceed.

8. Cookies and analytics

This website uses cookies to operate correctly and to understand how the site is used. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, although some parts of the site may then not work as intended.
