Notary Public

For documents used overseas

A notary attests documents so that they will be accepted by authorities, courts and institutions outside Singapore. Notarisation is commonly required for:

  • Powers of attorney intended for use in another country
  • Certified true copies of passports, identity documents and certificates
  • Company documents for filing or registration abroad
  • Documents supporting overseas property transactions
  • Educational and professional certificates

Some countries additionally require legalisation or an apostille after notarisation. Tell us where the document is going and we will tell you what is needed.

Commissioner for Oaths

For documents used in Singapore

A Commissioner for Oaths administers oaths and affirmations, and witnesses the signing of documents that must be sworn or declared. This commonly covers:

  • Statutory declarations
  • Affidavits for court proceedings
  • Declarations required by government agencies
  • Verification of documents required by banks and insurers

You must attend in person and sign in front of the Commissioner. Do not sign the document in advance.

Questions

Common questions.

Do I need an appointment?
Please call ahead. Notarisation must be done in person and we would rather confirm that Mr Tan is in the office than have you make a wasted trip.
What is the difference between a Notary Public and a Commissioner for Oaths?
Broadly, a Commissioner for Oaths administers oaths and declarations for use within Singapore. A Notary Public attests documents for use outside Singapore. Mr Tan is appointed as both, so whichever you need, it can be done here.
How much does it cost?
Call and tell us what the document is and where it is going. Fees depend on the document and on whether legalisation is also required, and we will tell you before you attend.
Can I sign the document before I arrive?
No. The point of the exercise is that the signature is witnessed. If you have already signed, the document will usually have to be re-executed.
